A-League Round 25 - Wellington Phoenix 2-1 Western Sydney Wanderers - 18/04/2026.
Photo highlights from the A-League Round 25 clash between the Wellington Phoenix and Western Sydney Wanderers, which was played at the Apollo Projects Stadium in Christchurch.
The Wellington Phoenix earned a hard-fought victory against the Western Sydney Wanderers with a 2-1 win over the bottom side. This was the last event at the Apollo Projects Stadium before Christchurch sporting events move to the brand new One NZ Stadium, where the first event—the Super Pacific Rugby: 2026 Super Round— which will take place from April 24th to 26th.
The match was played in front of 11,066 supporters.
This victory, the fourth in seven games under interim coach Chris Greenacre, moved the Phoenix up to seventh. Ultimately, it wasn’t enough to keep their season alive after Melbourne City’s 3-2 win over Brisbane Roar officially ended their charge, leaving them four points outside the top six with one game remaining after a season of inconsistencies.
Ifeanyi Eze and Kazuki Nagasawa both scored from Payne crosses, either side of Brandon Borrello’s equaliser for the visitors. Borrello’s goal came from a fiercely struck drive that evaded goalkeeper Josh Oluwayemi’s fingertips after the ball came through a crowd of players.
