Photo highlights from the Liberty A-League / A-League Double Header between Wellington Phoenix vs. Newcastle Jet’s / Wellington Phoenix vs. WSW. The first match was the women’s fixture between the Wellington Phoenix and Newcastle Jet’s which was a largely comfortable affair for the Wellington Phoenix after goals from Mariana Speckmaier who scored a penalty and turned provider for Hope Breslin to tap home five minutes later. The second half was a largely uneventful affair as the Phoenix moved up to third in the table.

The A-League fixture between Wellington Phoenix and Western Sydney Wanderers was again a tightly contested affair with few clear-cut opportunities between the sides until injury time when Phoenix winger Kosta Barbarouses rounded goalkeeper Lawrence Thomas and held his composure to score with a left-footed finish from a tight angle. Minutes later the Phoenix struck again this time through Ben Old who struck a first-time shot from the left and sent Sky Stadium into pandemonium after Barbarouses who this time turned provider and raced forward from a lightning counterattack and threaded a pass for Old in between two Western Sydney defenders for the Wellington Phoenix to continue their excellent form under new coach Giancarlo Italiano.
